Budd Rail Diesel Car #6121
Built by the Budd Company for the Canadian National Railroad in 1953. Sold to VIA Rail and was in service until sold to a private owner in 1994. Converted to a table car by current owner and operated in dinner train service until 2019. One end of the car has been converted into a bar and food prep area with commercial grade food service equipment. Some of the mechanical details include: Great body and roof (stainless), 72 seat capacity, 2-340 HP Cummins Diesel Engines (last operated as a self propelled car in 2016), engineer control stands at each end of the car, disc brakes, roller bearings, 26L brake valves, 2-20 KW Kubota V2003-TBG diesel generators, event recorder, 480v HEP (1 side), heat, air conditioning, restroom (holding tank). NOTE: This car can be operated as a self propelled car, drive shafts will need to be re-installed on existing engines. When the food prep area was installed, the existing windows were blanked over by installing a sheet of metal where the glass was. Converting back to a higher capacity car would include putting glass back into the window frames and reconfiguring the interior where the food prep area is. This car is in operational condition. Tarps were placed over the exterior of the car to protect from harsh winter weather.
