Built by the Budd Company as a 56 seat coach for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1945 and numbered #4067. Retired by the PRR in 1973 and sold to Amtrak and renumbered to #6807. In 1976 Amtrak retired the car and sold it to the East Broad Top Railroad who used the car as a gift shop and snack bar. Purchased in 1989 to be used for dinner train service and eventually sold to the current owner in 2001 and converted into a luxurious private car for use on a tourist train. As you enter the car from the vestibule you come into an open concept kitchen with a large custom made service bar that seats 4 passengers. Behind the service bar you will find a Viking refrigerator, all stainless sink, convection oven, custom 40 lbs ice bin & microwave. As you leave the service bar area you walk into a HUGE dining lounge area with overstuffed chairs, tables and sofas. This room can easily be reconfigured to a large 40+ seat lounge or install 4 top tables and you have a very elegant 48 seat dining room. As you leave the lounge/dining area you enter into a small hallway that leads off to a cozy master room with an upper and lower berth, plenty of storage, restroom and provisions for the addition of a shower. The Spirit of Tennessee is a fully functional car and ready for service, some of its mechanical details include: Oil & grease bearings w/ serviceable wheels, head end power (all four corners), heavy duty air conditioning, heat, D-22 brake valves, all NEW Adlake window shades throughout car, 500 gal water tank w/ freeze protection, tread brakes, custom brushed stainless decorative panels throughout car, self contained toilet, BOSE surround sound system, full exterior stainless skirts (very rare for a car of this vintage), custom CORIAN window sills throughout car, all door & window hardware has been rechromed, new A/C blowers, current COT&S, over $52,000 in custom 2" cherry wood work and all interior wood word is matched cut (what ever grain you see on the top of the wall matches the wood at the bottom of the wall), original steam heat grills left in place (all water and electrical lines run behind them), NEW tempered 1/2" glass in the end doors with custom dogwood blossom design etched into glass, NEW diaphragm rubber installed on both ends, ISSH trucks with truck mounted cylinders, H couplers, updated electrical system, good body.
