In 1921, 50 Cabooses were built by the Laconia Car Company of Laconia, NH as a wood caboose with a steel under frame. The original numbers ranged from 4600-4649. In the.late 1920's, the cabooses were renumbered to the range of 104600-104649. In 1959, 38 were rebuilt with a steel body by the International Car Division in Kenton, OH. The numbering was simplified, with this caboose taking the number C127. In 1979, it was rebuilt, and retooled in Billerica Shops in MA, with roller bearing trucks installed. The caboose was renumbered C83. In 1982, the caboose was again renumbered to BM 483. In 1992, it was sold by Boston and Maine to a private owner, as BM 483. In 1998, it was sold once again to a private owner as BM 483. The original C127 number was discovered under a coat of paint during the caboose's first renovation. On June 13th, 2010, the caboose was once again sold to a private owner who still holds possession. The original C127 is currently displayed throughout and the paint scheme is 1959 vintage.The caboose has a good body (no rust holes), an updated control valve, new air hoses, a 4000 watt Onan generator with shore power adapter, and NFL bearings. It has flashing red lights on each end and removable Pyle cannon ball corner lights. It is current on all it’s NYS DOT and FRA inspections including a five year age waiver. It has UMLER tags. The interior features a kitchenette with a granite counter top on hickory cabinets. It has a 4 burner stove, microwave, sink and refrigerator. The bathroom has a Domestic china toilet with a holding tank, sink and a Pullman vanity mirror. There is a 40 gallon water holding tank (not potable) with a water pump for pressure.There are 15 110 volt outlets. There is a 2000 watt inverter for emergency power. There are two tool boxes with foam mattresses for seating plus four chairs in the kitchen. The coupola has four 32 inch wide seats and ceramic tables. The AC/heat pump needs to be serviced, The brass shelves are Pullman. Most memorabilia is included, art work, conductor’s table, lanterns, flags, brass reverse whistle, first aid kit, original stretcher, blue stop sign, four wheel contour grinders (new), Occupied Camp Car sign, many tools and an original B&M stool. The caboose is on live rail and can be shipped on it’s own wheels. It can be interchanged to CSX. This car is in operating condition and ideal for a shortline or tourist operation
