Seaboard Coast Line Observation Car #775004
Trucks have received a 40 yr truck rebuild
Note, car comes with 24 pair of Haywood-Wakefield rotating coach seats and 24 folding bedroom chairs for the observation lounge area.
Built by the Budd Company as a 48 seat coach/lounge observation car for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and operated on their flagship train the "Silver Meteor" between New York City & Florida. Converted by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (Seaboard Air Line merged with Atlantic Coast Line for form SCL) to a locomotive training simulator in the 1960's and the SCL blanked off all the side windows. Eventually retired by the SCL and sold into private ownership. Rebuilding of the car for shortline/Amtrak service began and the project was halted before completion. Some of the mechanical details include: Stainless steel construction, great body, all new window (FRA) single glazing and gasketing, H couplers, HEP, 5.5x10 Hyatt bearings, 40 year truck rebuild, 26-C air brake valves, good wheels, VERY clean underbody, air conditioning condensing unit included with car, 480v transformers, rubber diaphragms , NEW electric floor heat, Amtrak electrical locker, NEW walls in restrooms, NEW insulation in walls, NEW Headhunter toilets, full set of Haywood Wakefield coach seats, 18 folding lounge chairs, good sills. Would make a great addition to any tourist or dinner train, most of work has been done.
