PRICE REDUCTION....Seller will accept $145,000 for Car, land & attached home.
Built in 1901 by the Pullman Company as a business car for the president of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad. Rebuilt by the railroad in the 1950's and at that time they removed the platform from the dining room end of car and added bedrooms which shortened the observation lounge. The EJ&E retired the car and it was sold to famed railroad artist Russ Porter in the 1970's and moved to its current location and used as part of his art studio. When the car was moved a roof was erected over the car protecting it from the elements. As you walk into the car from the observation platform (see before and after rebuild floor plans) you enter into a small observation lounge that seats 2-4 passengers. As you enter the hall from the lounge you pass by two single bedrooms with convertible sofas, next is general toilet and then a large master bedroom with connecting stateroom. After the stateroom is the crew room, then kitchen and at the end of the car is a large dining/sun room. Throughout the car you will find stunning examples of Pullmans wood working craftsmanship with rich Mahogany paneling. All original fixtures and furniture are intact. "Illinois" is a wood bodied car riding on 3 axle friction bearing trucks, the exterior of the car is paneled in tongue and groove siding and the car still retains its ornate observation railings. The car is currently connected to residential power and is equipped with electric base board heat. It has been part of a summer home and great care was taken when adding the home not to physically alter the car, so removal will not damage the car body. The car, home ( family room, entry foyer, kitchenette and bathroom as well as a mechanical room and an exterior patio) & property (1/3 of an acre) can be sold as a package and is located near a poplar WI tourist area, please contact our office for more details.
