Built by the Budd Company in 1954 for service on Northern Pacific's "North Coast Limited". Became Burlington Northern #1453 in 1967 and sold to Amtrak in 1971, retired by Amtrak and sold into private ownership. #312 was originally built as a 4 roomette, 4 single bedroom, 4 double bedroom, dome lounge (2 single rooms converted to a kitchen and 2 roomettes removed by current owner to create a master room). Rebuilding of the car to Amtrak certification has begun and some of the mechanical details include: Good body, both trucks have had a 40 yr inspection, OSSH, disc brakes, D-22 valves, A end frame has a crack but is easily fixable and engineering has already been done, 2-8 ton air conditioning units, rotating end cap bearings, good to great wheels, new rubber gaskets and glass except for tear drop windows in dome, floor heat in bedrooms and dome, new blower motor, folding walls in bedrooms replaced with stationary walls, kitchen (installed by NP), good side sills, side sheeting was removed and reinstalled, 250 gal fuel tank, holding tank, 1/2 of HEP installed, 1/2 of MU and 27 pin installed, main transformer installed, seller has a large quantity of interior hardware.
