Please note: Several photos in this listing are from our files. With the exception of the couplers being removed (they are available with the car) the photos represent the current condition of the car.
Built in 1937 by the Budd Company as a coach observation car for the Reading Railroads streamliner "The Crusader". The car operated in daily service between Reading Railroads Philadelphia Terminal and Central Railroad of New Jersey's terminal in Jersey City, NJ. As the Reading Railroad started scaling down their passenger operations, the Crusader equipment was taken out of service and sold to the Canadian National Railroad. CN ran the equipment and eventually transferred ownership to VIA Rail who eventually sold equipment to private owners. Car #5 operated for a time as part of a dinner train in the Pacific Northwest and has been in storage for several years.
Some of the mechanical details include OSSH trucks, rotating end cap, new wheels, rotating end cap bearings, truck mounted brake cylinders with comp shoes, both couplers are included with the car but need to be reinstalled (missing one pin), good body and roof, HEP (one side), heat, A/C, good interior (Note: The interior ceiling was painted with a textured design. It appears the interior has rust damage but it is actually the design), large observation lounge, small service pantry, updated electrical system,D22 brake valves.
