PRICE REDUCTION INCLUDES FRESH COT&S

Built in 1948 by the Budd Company as part of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroads contribution to the California Zephyr, actually built as part of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroads order with the Budd Company. Sold by the Rio Grande to Amtrak, who retired the car and it eventually was sold to VIA Rail but never rebuilt. Sold into private ownership and brought back to the United States and has been in storage since. Overall this is a very good car with excellent bones, pretty complete and would make a great conversion to a private car. One downfall with this floor plan is that there is no vestibule, a sister car was rebuilt as a private car with an open platform which would eliminate the no vestibule problem. Some of the mechanical details include: Stainless steel construction, D-22 brake valves, disc brakes, H couplers, original DC electrical system, steam heat, good body (some tagging), 32v/110v inverters (replaced motor alternators), Timken & Hyatt grease bearings, ISSH, FULL skirts (very rare for Budd cars), good to fair wheels. The floor plan (available to download) includes two compartments with upper and lower berths, a large dormitory room with 13 bunks and shower, 24 seat dome with original coach seats, under dome kitchen and coffee shop area and a 20 seat lounge at the end of the car.
