A great car for any dinner train or corporate function!
Built in 1950 by the Budd Company for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a baggage/dormitory. When the Southern Pacific ceased passenger service the car was sold to Amtrak. Retired by Amtrak in the 1990's the car was sold to it current owner who converted it into a bar/lounge/presentation car. As you enter the car there is a large (57' x 9') lounge/bar area equipped with eight overstuffed leather chairs that form an intimate cocktail area, two small baggage doors that open up to ease in loading supplies/displays and they have drop gates so you can have them open as you speed down the railroad. Directly past the baggage doors is another cocktail area with custom built free standing cocktail tables and a wall mounted video monitor. The remaining in the lounge is occupied by an approximate 20' long full service marble topped bar. The bar is equipped with five bar stools, ice wells, sinks, drink wells and a large liquor storage cabinet. Next to the liquor cabinet is additional space for glass ware storage and a full entertainment/audio system. Just past the bar you enter into a small hallway that has two crew dorms rooms each sleeping four and then several storage rooms, one of which was the original car shower.
Silver Express is a fully operational car and is Amtrak certified.
