Built in August of 1954 for the Canadian National Railroad as a 40 seat dining car for service on the Super Continental and Ocean Ltd. Eventually the car was sold to VIA Rail and operated in various trains across the VIA system. It was later sold to a private owner who began to rebuild the car to Amtrak certification, the project was approx 90% completed when the project was stopped. Some of the mechanical details include: Rebuilt trucks (40 yr), CS couplers, MU , 27 pin communication line, tread brakes w/comp shoes, 6.5 x 12 APEE bearings, drop equalizer, OSSH, HEP ( some cables have been removed), new window glazing, great body, new electrical locker, NEW kitchen equipment that includes: electric range, convection ovens, holding ovens, upright commercial refrigerators, dish washer, steam table, broilers, etc. The car is also equipped with freeze protection, A/C, electric heat, HEP, 26-C brake system, emergency lights, 80KW diesel generator, hot water w/circulating loop, gray water holding tanks, fuel tank, under car storage box, water raising system. Although this car does not look very pretty, most of the rebuild work has been completed and it would not take a whole lot to put the car back together and get it in operating condition. Close to three times the asking price has already been spent on the car, a new owner will get one solid car that will last for years to come.
