Built by the Budd Company for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad as a 6 double bedroom, 5 compartment sleeping car. The car was built for service on the California Zephyr and was sold by the CB&Q to Amtrak in 1971. The car went through Amtrak's Heritage Fleet rebuild and was finally retired in 1995. Only 8 cars of this series were built and Silver Thrush is one of three cars that exists from the series. Some of the car details include: Stainless construction, H couplers, Head End Power, (B end pigtails need replaced) MU & COM lines, rotating end cap bearings, TFM disc brakes, 8' 6" wheel base, 26-C brakes, interior has been stripped for new paint, Amtrak electrical locker, electric floor & OH heat, A/C, shower, last COT&S 02/2015, sleeps 22, wheels 3"+ with good contour, 6x11 journals, 13 13 1/4 pedestals, plastic pedestal liners, 7.5 disc brake cylinders, E-5 decelostats, WM-6DP draft gear, missing Amtrak HVAC control & E5 control panels, freeze protection, 200 gal stainless water tank, emergency windows, Margaurd windows (all need to be reglazed), side still repairs in progress, room hardware removed for interior painting but it goes with the car and is stored inside.
