A virtual time capsule is the best way to describe this stunning car! Built in 1936 as a steel business car for the Central Railroad of New Jersey, eventually sold to the Erie Railroad and after the Erie Railroad merged with the DL&W (forming the Erie-Lackawanna) the car was renumbered #2. After the EL retired the car it was sold into private ownership, the owner restored the car and rebuilt it to Amtrak certification (currently not certified) and operated the car for various special events. The incredible thing about this car is that with the exception of a few minor things, it is VERY original and complete! As you enter the car from the observation platform you enter a wood paneled observation lounge complete with original chairs and fixtures. From the lounge you enter the hall and pass by the first bedroom which is a compartment with a standard heavyweight section type lower berth and a standard upper berth. This room is also equipped with a built in dresser, wash basin, closet and toilet (non-functioning). Next down the hall is a double bedroom with a folding lower berth and upper berth, the room is also equipped with a toilet (non-functioning), wash basin, built in dresser and closet. The next two rooms are connecting master rooms with a full size stationary beds, built in dressers and two identical connecting restrooms with toilet (functioning) and sinks. And sandwiched between these two connecting restrooms is the general restroom accessible from the hall and that room is also equipped with a shower, toilet and sink. As you leave the hallway you enter the elegant dining room with original china buffet, table and chairs. As you look towards the ceiling your attention is drawn to the antique crystal chandelier that casts a soft glow over the table, enhancing each and every meal served in this room. Continuing from the dining room you walk into the service hall that leads you past the electrical locker, crew room (sleeps 2), pantry and full kitchen. Phoebe Snow is a fully self-contained railroad business car that can accommodate 12+ passengers during the day and sleep 8 passengers plus 2 crew at night. Some of the mechanical details include: Excellent body (will need some minor body work at one end) and roof (this car has kept indoors for the past 20 years), full Head End Power, APEE bearings (5.5 x 10 bearings), bolted pedestal trucks, 27 pin communication lines, H couplers, approx 60 KW Cummins diesel generator (approx 500 hrs), water raising compressor, air conditioning,  Microphor toilet, comp shoes, ISSH trucks, 230v 3 phase stand by, GREAT wheels, electric kitchen, UC valves.
