Built in 1948 by the Budd Company for the Chesapeak & Ohio Railroad as a 5 roomette, 1 bedroom, 3 drawing room dome car. Moonlight Dome was to be part of Robert Youngs (C&O CEO) dream of a luxury train called “The Chessie”. The train was never a reality and shortly after the car was built it was sold to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. B&O eventually sold it to the Seaboard Coast Line and then Amtrak and finally into private owners. The car was rebuilt into a private car and the interior floor plan now includes 3 drawing rooms, 1 double bedroom, kitchen, shower, lounge and dome dining/lounge area. This car is fully Amtrak certified and ready for service. Some of the mechanical details include: Full Amtrak certification, 60 KW STADCO generator, 480/240 3 phase electrical system, updated air conditioning system (2 units one for body and one for dome), water raising system, freeze protection, HEP, H couplers, Microphor Toilet system, updated electrical locker, electric heat, rubber diaphrams, 27 Pin Com line, OSSH, marker lights, stainless construction, disc brakes, great body, APEE bearings, 26-C valves, COT&S is in date and good until Aug 2012, PC1 is in date and good until April 2012. NOTE: Lounge furniture is not included in the sale of the car.
