Built in 1948 by the Milwaukee Road in their own shops as a dining/parlor car and delivered by the shop in July of 1948. It was rebuilt by the Milwaukee Road in 1959 as a diner/lounge for service on the overnight train the Pioneer Limited between Chicago & Minneapolis-St. Paul. It continued in this service until late 1970 and was held in stand by service for occasional use on the Twin Cities Hiawatha's as extra dining/lounge space for parlor car passengers. The car was retired by the Milwaukee Road in 1971 and eventually sold in late 1971 to the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad for use on their Executive Train. The Detroit & Mackinaw sold the car into private ownership approx 10 years ago. For the last 40+ years this car has been stored inside and has not been exposed to the weather and has an excellent body! Some of the mechanical details include: GREAT body & roof, good windows, D-22 valves, F-6 relay, thick wheels with good profiles, grease bearings, truck mounted cylinders, I-beam equalizers, good paint interior & exterior, under car propane lockers, decelostats, tread brakes, H couplers, 1/2 480v HEP, electric heat, A/C (operating propane powered Waukesha Ice Engine, would not be hard to convert to electric A/C). Propane kitchen with updated appliances that meet NFS standards and include: gas griddle, grill, oven, 3 well sink, stainless counters & refrigeration. Car seats 24 (more seats can be added) passengers in the dining room and 24 (more seats can be added) in the lounge. Car is equipped with D/C electrical system (runs lights, blowers, A/C controls) and it is fed from a 480v transformer. Car is also equipped with 2 restrooms (no holding tanks), a curved bar in lounge area, 20' kitchen, 30' lounge, 20 ' dining room. Plenty of storage and a stewards station.
NOTE: This car is READY for service and would make a great addition to any tourist or dinner train operation.
